Our History

From Argo's founding in Italy in 1988, to Argo Industrial's arrival in South Africa in 1994, to a purpose-built regional headquarters in Kempton Park — this is the story of Landini, McCormick and Maschio Gaspardo in South Africa.

Our Story

More than three decades in South Africa

1988

The Beginning of Argo

Argo S.p.A. is founded in Italy by brothers Valerio and Pierangelo Morra, with a vision to build a world-class agricultural machinery group through strategic brand acquisitions.

1994

Argo arrives in South Africa

Argo Industrial (Pty) Ltd begins operating in South Africa, initially representing the Landini tractor brand, and establishes its national headquarters in Boksburg, Gauteng — laying the foundations for a long-term commitment to Southern African agriculture.

Late 1990s–2000s

Building a dealer network

Argo Industrial steadily expands its footprint across South Africa, building a growing dealer network for sales, parts support, technical assistance and after-sales service, and extending into neighbouring Southern African markets.

2000

The McCormick brand joins the family

Following Argo Tractors' acquisition of the McCormick brand globally, McCormick tractors become part of the South African product offering — giving customers a choice between two premium Italian-built tractor brands.

2010–2020

Continued growth

Argo Industrial strengthens its position as one of Southern Africa's leading suppliers of premium agricultural machinery, with the Boksburg headquarters supporting an expanding dealer network across South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia and other Sub-Saharan markets.

1 June 2021

Breaking ground for the future

Construction begins on a new, purpose-built regional headquarters in Pomona, Kempton Park — an investment of approximately R100 million reflecting Argo's long-term commitment to South African agriculture.

1 June 2022

A new regional headquarters opens

Exactly a year after construction began, Argo Industrial officially opens its new 6,000 m² headquarters in Kempton Park and relocates its operations from Boksburg — bringing together a modern showroom, national parts warehouse, technical training centre, nine tractor and implement assembly bays, customer event facilities and a regional support centre under one roof.

2022

Local assembly expands

With dedicated assembly facilities now operational, tractors and selected implements are assembled locally — improving product availability, delivery times, customer support and technical training for dealers across Southern Africa.

2023

Complete farming solutions

Building on nearly three decades of experience in Southern Africa, Argo Industrial expands beyond tractors through a partnership with Maschio Gaspardo, one of Italy's leading agricultural implement manufacturers — so farmers can source tractors, tillage equipment, planters, seed drills and crop-care equipment from a single dealer network.
